Child Safety Policy

Child Safety Policy

Approved by the Library Board September 20, 2012

The Balch Springs Library – Learning Center strives to create a safe learning environment for all children who visit the facility. Child safety is of upmost importance to the City of Balch Springs and library staff members.  Parents, guardians or adults at least 18 years or older are asked to monitor their children and take responsible for their behavior.

Any child under the age of 12 should be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.  The POLICE WILL BE CALLED for any child under 12 left unattended in the library and the parent cannot be located. Library staff is not available to provide supervision above the customary supervision provided to all patrons.

Children who are dropped off at the library should be picked up prior to closing. Parents are urged to know library hours so that children are not left unattended before opening and after closing. The POLICE WILL BE CALLED to pick up a child younger than 16 years of age that is not picked up by 10 minutes after the library closes. Library staff is not authorized to provide transportation to children who are left at the library beyond closing.
